New Job at RIM

October 30th, 2008 No comments

It’s been almost two weeks now since I started a new (day) job at Research in Motion (RIM), which makes the Blackberry mobile device. The office is located in Redwood City (well, Redwood Shores), California, and is strangely enough, just a few buildings over from my last job. I’m doing software development for Blackberry devices, so it’s a bit of a change from my work in front-end web development, and going well so far. It’s taking a while to get my application environment set up, but then again, I’m also documenting the process at the same time. RIM is actually a Canadian company, and I’ll be visiting offices next week in Mississauga and the headquarters in Waterloo, near Toronto, Ontario.

Open Web Coding Job in CA

June 22nd, 2007 No comments

The company I’m working for in California (Redwood City, Bay area) is looking for a web developer/coder with skills similar to mine: XHTML, CSS, DOM scripting, AJAX (preferably Hijax), and web accessibility. We’re getting a web application up to speed with web standards and web accessibility and there’s a lot of work! It may be contract to start, but I’m sure it pays well.

If you are skilled in the areas listed above, and you are interested, please send me a message at dlembree at g mail dot com. Serious inquiries only. You must have at least a few years experience.

Came Home and Now I’m Leaving

May 5th, 2007 No comments

So, I’ve decided to take a major step and pursue a great job opportunity in California. It’ll be tough leaving family, but all in all, I believe it’s the best decision. My freelance web company, CheckEngine USA, will continue as normal.

The company I’ll be working for is Yodlee, in Redwood City. My title will be “Senior UI Developer”. In addition, I’ve been doing some freelance for Google, so it’ll be neat to be in the neighborhood (Google’s HQ “campus” is in nearby Mountain View).

As my story goes, I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, moved to Orlando for 7 years, and then moved back. I’ve been home now for nearly 3 years, and have got a lot accomplished in relatively little time, so it’s kind of a bummer to leave. In September 2005, I started Web Axe, a podcast on web accessibility, shortly after joining the Detroit Podcasters Network. Less than a year later, I co-founded Refresh-Detroit, an organization of web professionals, with Ross Johnson.

On a personal note, my wife and I have had two children since arriving back home, Carson and Justin. Also, my parents moved out of the home in which my brother and I were raised (in Dearborn, Michigan). They bought a nice condo in Northville where my mom has opened a shop nearby, Petite Maison.
